VSL is an international specialist construction company with a worldwide footprint. We strongly believe in preserving our built environment to reduce the carbon footprint of the infrastructure sector and we see innovative engineering and high-quality execution as the key to that. As a part of VSL, the technical centers are a group of experts in engineering and methods to provide support to the countries where VSL is active. VSL hosts its Technical Centers in Bern, Barcelona, Dubai, Singapore, Sydney and Hong Kong. The technical centers guarantee the technical expertise on the methods, design of permanent works design, temporary works and mitigates the technical risks associated with our projects. We are looking to reinforce our team in Switzerland (Bern) by recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer.
What’s the team like?
The team in our technical center in Bern, Switzerland is mainly focused on providing support and technical competence to our project managers, business developers, our site engineers and to offer a strong added value to our customers. Together, we work in a multidisciplinary environment to improve our technologies and develop new, optimized and differentiating solutions. Our engineering teams combine civil, structural, mechanical and data science skills. We operate with multinational teams and aim to strongly advance gender diversity.
How will you make an impact?
- Design of post-tensioning structures
- Preparation of design reports
- Preparation of drawings for post-tensioning layout and reinforcement
- Project managing small to medium sized projects in Switzerland
- Technically supporting projects in Switzerland, Europe and worldwide
- Point of contacts to the internal and external client
- Driving innovation by suggesting new subjects including new ways of working
- Site visits to check the design application
- Participating in VSL transverse project teams

Who are we looking for?
- MSc Degree in Civil/ Structural Engineering
- Experience of 5 to 10 years in design and calculation (concrete, post-tensioning, steel)
- Excellent analytical skills of post-tensioning structures
- Ability to make drawings related to post tensioning layout on Autocad
- Project management skills to meet quality, budget, planning and safety requirements
- Strong communications skills to explain and express your work to engineers, site staff and clients with different backgrounds
- Enthusiasm for developing novel integrated solutions
- A mindset of innovation and early adoption of new digital technologies
- Proficient written and spoken English skills
